Beaver Creek Resort, CO
Project Title:
1,000 Light Bulbs

Description:
Beaver Creek is giving away more than 1,000 energy efficient light bulbs on its annual Green Day celebration. The resort is asking skiers and snowboarders to convserve energy by replacing at least one light in their homes as part of the ENERGY STAR Change a Light Pledge. Pledging to save energy is a fun and educational way to raise environmental awareness among kids and adults. Beaver Creek's goal is to receive 1,500 pledges to change at least one light at home. Reaching this goal of changing 1,500 light bulbs would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 669,000 pounds and save 423,000 kWh of energy. This is equivalent to taking approximately 54 cars off the road or not powering 36 homes from coal for one year, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Beaver Creek is also in the process of replacing 100 workplace lights with compact fluorescent ENERGY STAR Qualified Bulbs, with more than 50 bulbs already changed. The resort is seeking additional pledges from 1,000 guests and 400 resort employees.
