New Education Programs Debut at 2006 Winter Shows

LAKEWOOD, Colo.– January 24, 2006–A staple for ski area operators and industry decision makers, the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) will host its annual Winter Conferences and Tradeshows at Killington, Vt., Feb. 6-7, 2006, and Squaw Valley USA, Calif., March 6-8. Forty sessions, 13 on-snow demonstrations, 17 panel discussions, four on-mountain tours and two notorious Phatcat Challenges are all on the agenda for 2006. New education programs spotlighting the most current issues being faced by resort management include:

  • A snow surface workshop studying efficiency in snowmaking and grooming;
  • A workers’ compensation program that takes a hard look at factors driving premiums;
  • A first-ever public relations forum featuring nationally recognized travel and sports writers;
  • The latest inresort terrain parks, integrating instructors, park builders and area management;
  • A full-day program at Killington for food and beverage managers, including a trends forum with top F&B directors;
  • Marketing to women: a lighthearted program that tells you how to really reach the family decision makers with your media.

Other special sessions include a half-day environmental workshop to complement the recent five-year revision of the Environmental Charter. The workshop will focus on the new direction for the Sustainable Slopes program and how resorts can bring environmental programs to the next level. A $1,000 prize will be awarded at both venues to the industry’s “Top Op” at the 2nd Annual Phatcat Challenge, a competition that tests groomers in three different on-hill disciplines. A “Morning Showcase” will spotlight programs at host resorts, including on-snow risk management clinics and a workplace safety field exercise.
