SKI RESORTS PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK
LAKEWOOD, COLO., December 22, 2004 - The National Ski Areas Association's sixth annual National Safety Awareness Week, part of the Heads Up Safety Initiative and sponsored by Mountain Dew, will take place Jan. 15-21, 2005. Throughout the week, ski areas nationwide will advocate slope safety by promoting the Your Responsibility Code's seven principles of slope safety to guests and resort staff.

"Safety is a top priority for ski resorts, and National Safety Awareness Week, through the efforts of resorts nationwide, is an opportunity for both guests and employees to gain a better understanding of the Your Responsibility Code and personal responsibility on the slopes in a fun and creative environment," said NSAA President Michael Berry.
Resorts have developed creative safety programs to promote this industry-wide safety initiative. The programs include safety demonstrations, on-mountain contests, redeemable coupons for guests who can recite parts of Your Responsibility Code, ski school safety demonstrations, employee competitions, and participation in the Kids' Safety Poster Contest, a local contest that invites elementary-aged children in resort communities to design safety-related posters.
Each year, NSAA recognizes resorts that exemplify the most creative and successful Safety Week programs with the Ski Area Safety Awards, which are announced in May. Other NSAA safety programs include www.lidsonkids.org and www.freestyleterrain.com.
