Friday, January 12, 2018

National Ski Areas Association (NSAA), a nonprofit trade association that represents ski area owners and operators in the US, has named Michael Lane as NSAA’s new director of technical services, a position primarily focused on lift safety, education, operations and maintenance. Lane, is currently the National Ropeway Engineer for the USDA Forest Service.

“NSAA is fortunate to find someone with Mike’s experience and knowledge.  He understands ski area operations and his expertise in the area of lifts will benefit the entire ski industry,” said Kelly Pawlak, president of NSAA.

Lane has been with the Forest Service for the past 17 years, and was the project manager with Doppelmayr for 10 years prior to that.  Lane has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University and serves on many committees and boards, including ANSI B77 and OITAF NACS.

“I believe my knowledge of lifts and interest in training and education will help me to continue and improve important work with the ski areas.  I am really looking forward to the opportunity.” said Lane. “

Lane will replace Sid Roslund, who has held this position for 27 years.  Roslund said, “Mike’s years of service on the B77 Committee and knowledge of the industry will make the transition as smooth as any of us had hoped for.”  Roslund will stay on through May, assuring a smooth transition of the ASC B77 Committee and maintenance seminars.

Lane will assume the position at NSAA in February, 2018.

The National Ski Areas Association represents 303 alpine resorts that account for more than 90 percent of the skier/snowboarder visits nationwide. It also has 370 supplier members who provide equipment, goods, and services to the mountain resort industry. NSAA analyzes and distributes ski industry statistics; produces annual conferences and tradeshows; produces a bimonthly industry publication; and is active in state and federal government affairs.
