Opening Night Cocktail Reception – Under the Stars
in the Plaza
Wednesday, May 4th, 6:30 – 9:30 pm
Our opening night reception embraces the laidback ambience and casual elegance of the early Spanish mission culture of Southern California. We will celebrate and reconnect with cocktails and an amazing variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres in the center plaza of the La Costa Resort amidst the lush flowers, palm trees, music, and Spanish-tiled architecture of Old World Spain. A “casual chic” attire would be perfect for our opening cocktail reception, but evenings can be cool in May, with cool Pacific Ocean breezes, so a sweater or long sleeves would suit you well for our reception under the stars.
HKD Boot Camp- Raise your “ImPulse”
Thursday, May 5 and Friday May 6,
6:00 am-7:00 am
Start your day off right and join HKD Snowmakers and La Costa Resort’s “Drill Sergeant” for two early morning workouts on the Terrace Lawn. The HKD Morning Boot Camp will commence at 06:00 sharp, and recruits will be dismissed at 07:00, leaving time to enjoy the continental breakfast and attend the keynote address.
HKD Snowmakers is all about “low energy” but you won’t find any of that at their Boot Camp—only sweat and smiles.
Tradeshow Reception
Thursday, May 5th, 5:30 – 7:30 pm
On Thursday, our cocktail reception heads indoors, allowing ample time for socializing and exploring our Tradeshow, replete with the latest and greatest our industry suppliers have to offer resorts. Following the tradeshow, dinner plans can be made in the neighboring community of Encinitas, a charming beach enclave known for its great cuisine, ornamental flower gardens, and one of California’s classic, old downtowns.
The Final Night Gala Party in the Grand Ballroom
Friday, May 6th, 7:00 – 10:00 pm
We close our convention with a Southern California-themed bang. Anything goes here in trend-setting California — from drinks to food to attire. We will showcase fantastic, California-inspired cuisine at tasting stations and open bars throughout the ballroom for dinner. Our gala will feature the music, light, and colors of Southern California, resonating with a classic rhythm and blues band.
Surf’s Up! Saturday morning Surf Camp at La Costa
Saturday, May 7th, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Hang ten and catch a wave at the NSAA National Convention! We have arranged for
private group surf lessons on Saturday morning, May 7, from 10:00 a.m. to noon – following
the NSAA brunch – on the beach in Encinitas, California, which is only a 5-minute drive from
the La Costa Resort. One of the last true “surf towns” in California, Encinitas provides the
best surfing beaches and most bitchin’ waves in the United States outside of Hawaii. Sign up
now, as space is limited to 25 participants. For $85 registration, you’ll receive two
hours of instruction (one instructor for every two students, so you’ll have personalized
instruction), and the registration fee covers transportation from the hotel, a surfboard,
and a wetsuit – all you need to bring are your swim trunks and a gnarly attitude to learn.
Participants will need to sign a release, and provide their height and weight so that the Surf
Shop can arrange the correct wetsuits for participants. Print a registration
form here.
