managers, public relations and marketing personnel, mountain managers, general managers and department heads will benefit.

 

The Faculty

All NSAA FES faculty members have experience in the ski industry and come from a variety of backgrounds including insurance and claims management, loss control and resort operations. Terrain Parks…the Science Behind the Use of Features        

The design and construction of Freestyle Terrain is a blending of art and science.   A successful jump requires a creative component as well as the basic principles of physics that hold true for all features and user input. This session will help you better understand the interaction between users and jumps. What you will learn:

¨ Findings from the latest scientific research conducted at test-site resorts during the 2007/08 season;

¨ Responsibility for successful use of Freestyle Terrain;

¨ Understanding the consequences of the user’s behavior.

Understanding the “Freestyle Terrain Notebook” & How to Bring it to Life

The final component of our seminar will be devoted to NSAA’s new Freestyle Terrain Notebook.  As demand for this type of terrain has grown, the industry has gained valuable experience in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of parks and other freestyle terrain. The Notebook contains examples, samples and resource information based on “best” practices utilized at a number of resorts. This session will focus on the issues addressed in the Notebook and give you tips and take-homes to help you deliver the message to your employees and your guests. What you will learn:

¨ How to use NSAA’s newly-developed Power Point templates for training all levels of employees about Freestyle Terrain;

¨ Tips for how to assist your guests in understanding and accepting their responsibilities when using Freestyle Terrain;

¨ How to use your own website to deliver safety information and park user education;

¨ View the latest NSAA/Burton SmartStyle video and learn how to use it and other training tools effectively at your resort.

The 07/08 Industry Report Card…Claims and Litigation Trends

Presented in cooperation with MountainGuard, Wells Fargo Insurance Services, and the Association of Ski Defense Attorneys (ASDA), the Industry Report Card provides important information on the current and emerging claims and liability trends at U.S. ski resorts. The information enables all levels of ski resort managers to take proactive steps to reduce the chances of unwanted claims and be better prepared in the event of a lawsuit. What you will learn:

¨ Nationwide claims frequency and severity trends;

¨ Lawsuits impacting the region;

¨ How these relate to your operations;

¨ How to address them pre-loss and post-loss
