FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Green Power Program Continues to Snowball
More Than 60 Ski Areas Nationwide Offsetting Energy Use.
LAKEWOOD, Colo.– February 13, 2008 – Ski areas across the country are
investing in renewable energy to green their operations and do their part in the fight
against global warming. To date, 61 resorts in 18 states are buying renewable energy to
offset all, or part of their operational energy use. These resorts serve as a model for
other industries and encourage resorts guests to become involved in the fight against
global warming.

Of these 61 resorts, 29 are offsetting 100 percent of their energy use through
the purchase of renewable energy credits (RECs). All tolled, these 29 resorts are
purchasing 295, 339,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of green energy and their purchases result
in the avoidance of 432,396,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2). This is the equivalent
of planting nearly 17 million trees or avoiding more than 171,000 round-trip flights
between New York and San Francisco.
In addition, NSAA, the National Ski Patrol (NSP), the Professional Ski
Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors
(AASI) are also offsetting 100 percent of their electricity use, as is NSAA supplier
members BEWI Productions Inc., Waltham, Mass., and Ski Area Management, Woodbury,
Ct. NSAA also offset 100 percent of the emissions associated with this year's
National Convention and Tradeshow held at La Quinta Resort & Club in
Palm Springs, Calif.
NSAA launched its Green Power Program last September as part of the
industry’s Keep Winter Cool program (www.keepwintercool.org) to combat global warming.
Partners in Keep Winter Cool include the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and
Clif Bar & Co. For more information visit The Green Room in the Environment section of nsaa.org.
THE NATIONAL SKI AREAS ASSOCIATION, LOCATED IN LAKEWOOD, COLO., IS A TRADE ASSOCIATION FORMED IN 1962 FOR SKI AREA OWNERS AND OPERATORS NATIONWIDE.
