Terrain Park Safety Website Returns with Added Content

LAKEWOOD, Colo.—December 19, 2005—After receiving over 821,000 hits in its first year, the consumer-oriented website terrainparksafety.org (formerly freestyleterrain.org) will go live in December with a total redesign and added content for the 2005/06 ski and snowboard season. The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) debuted the website last year to help educate consumers about s afe freestyle skiing and riding, which includes the use of terrain parks, halfpipes, superpipes, and other freestyle features that have become standard at U.S. ski areas.

“Eighty-nine percent of NSAA member ski areas now offer some type of freestyle terrain—a few areas even have features on every run throughout the resort,” says NSAA Director of Education Tim White. “As the number of freestyle terrain users continues to grow it’s important that everyone be aware of how to use it safely.”

Terrainparksafety.org incorporates a variety of information about freestyle riding, including the tenets of the Smart Style Safety Initiative, FAQs about freestyle lessons, information on safety equipment, and public service messages from pro riders. The site will also feature an evolving photo gallery of freestyle terrain at resorts across the country.

An increasing number of ski areas are offering freestyle-specific lessons, and links to important resources—including the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI), the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA),and other organizations affiliated with freestyle instruction—are also included on the site.

All skiers and snowboarders planning to enter freestyle terrain this season are encouraged to log on to the website before hitting the slopes. For more information contact NSAA at 303-987-1111 or access www.nsaa.org for details on this or other industry safety initiatives—including Smart Style, Heads Up and the annual National Safety Awareness Week.
