Eight Ski Areas Recognized With Annual Industry Safety Awards

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. - May 24, 2006 — The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA), at its National Convention and Tradeshow held at the Marriott Marco Island Resort Golf Club & Spa, awarded eight member resorts with its annual Heads Up National Ski Area Safety Awards. Each season the awards recognize those resorts that have done an outstanding job of educating employees and guests about skiing and snowboarding responsibly. This year’s National Safety Awareness Week, sponsored by Mountain Dew, was held Jan.14 – 20 at resorts nationwide.

The 2006 winners are:
Best Overall Safety Program
Aspen/Snowmass, Colo.
Most Original Safety Program
Jiminy Peak, Mass.
Best Small Resort Safety Program
Welch Village Ski Area, Minn.
Best Safety Message
The Summit at Snoqualmie, Wash.
Best Youth Safety Program
Wintergreen Resort, Va.
Outstanding Safety Video
Vail Mountain, Colo.
Best Freestyle Terrain Safety Program
Beaver Creek, Colo.
Best Safety Week Program
Killington Resort, Vt.

“This was perhaps the most imaginative group of contest entries that we have seen since the inception of the safety awards, it’s very gratifying to see resorts put this much energy and effort into safety. I doubt that there is any industry in the country that works harder at promoting safety for its guests,” said NSAA Education Director Tim White.

Resorts receiving Honorable Mentions include Grand Targhee Resort, Wyo., Heavenly, Calif., and Whiteface, N.Y. For more information on the awards or other NSAA safety initiatives and resources, visit the Safety & Education section of nsaa.org
