FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

National Kid’s Safety Poster Contest Winners Announced

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – May 23, 2006 – Today the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) announced the winners of the seventh annual National Kid’s Safety Poster Contest. The 2005/06 winners were Emma Patterson, 6, representing Wintergreen Resort, Va., and Brooke Rammell, 10, representing Grand Targhee Resort, Wyo. For their efforts, Emma and Brooke each received a Pro-Tec helmet.

Now in its seventh year, the contest is part of NSAA’s HEADS UP safety initiative. The contest targets fourth, fifth and sixth graders, but any elementary age child can participate. This year thousands of children created posters at ski areas in 17 states across the country. The students are asked to create a poster related to any one of the seven points of the Your Responsibility Code, or one of the three points of the Smart Style safety initiative.

Emma, who won the “Most Creative” award for her poster which emphasized the importance of staying alert and obeying all signs and warnings, said her mother taught her how to ski and these days she enjoys skiing with her family, including her grandmother who works as the family program manager at Wintergreen. Meanwhile Brooke, who received the award for “Best Safety Message,” for her poster featuring the message “No Monkeying Around on Chairlifts” says she skis nearly every weekend with her parents and also as part of the Tetonia Elementary School Winter Sports Program.

Both winning posters were on display at the NSAA National Convention and Tradeshow held at the Marriott Marco Island Resort Golf Club & Spa, Marco Island, Fla., and will be published in the August issue of the NSAA Journal. For more information on the contest or other NSAA safety initiatives and resources, visit the Safety & Education section of www.nsaa.org.
