Greek Peak President Allen Kryger Receives Sherman Adams Award
Marco Island, Fla. – May 23, 2006 – The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) today at its National Convention and Tradeshow at the Marriott Marco Island Resort Golf Club & Spa, honored Allen R. Kryger, CEO of Greek Peak Mountain Resort, Cortland, N.Y., with the Sherman Adams Award. The award is presented annually to an individual from an Eastern ski area who has significantly influenced the ski industry. The award is named after the former governor of New Hampshire, who was also the founder of Loon Mountain, N.H.
Prior to serving his role as CEO, Al worked in many capacities in the ski industry including jobs as a lift attendant, lift contractor, building contractor, and he is credited for helping to develop snowmaking and lighting for night skiing. Al pioneered one of the first time-of-day computerized ticketing systems in 1970 which interfaced with the general accounting system.
Another example of Al’s dedication to expanding the sport is the introduction of The Adaptive Learn-to-Ski Program in the mid-1960s. In addition, he has served as chairman of the Cortland County Planning Board and most recently was a leading force in the development of a master plan for Greek Peak Mountain Resort, a 1539 residential unit recreational community recently approved by local and state agencies. Construction of a 106 unit waterpark hotel at Greek Peak began in May. Al was the founding president of the New York State Ski Area Operators Association, now Ski Areas of New York (SANY), and was inducted into the New York State Ski Area Operators Hall of Fame in 1989. Al has also served as a NSAA Director for two terms, NSAA Secretary from 2003 to 2004, and was director of the Eastern Ski Area Association, the predecessor organization to NSAA.
THE NATIONAL SKI AREAS ASSOCIATION, LOCATED IN LAKEWOOD, COLO., IS A TRADE ASSOCIATION FORMED IN 1962 FOR SKI AREA OWNERS AND OPERATORS NATIONWIDE.
