ASAP : Avalanche Safety Awareness Program
The five-year-old, non-profit ASAP introduces the concepts of safe alpine travel to young adults and anyone else with an interest in the backcountry. The program provides education—the majority of which takes place in middle and high school PE classes—that takes participants through an hour-long multi-media presentation about the risks associated with backcountry skiing, riding, hiking or snowshoeing. Participants also learn about and work with safety equipment, including avalanche beacons, probes and shovels.
The ASAP program is endorsed by the American Avalanche Association (AAA) and the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE), and has international support from the Canadian Avalanche Association & NSAA
